Simple Spider Cross Stitch Hoops

These cute and mildly spooky spiders from Stitched Modern are a quick and easy to stitch Halloween project.

The spider webs are drawn onto the fabric in the project they show, but you could stitch yours if you prefer. Some metallic thread or some blending filament would make for a fun web. You’ll find the pattern and project idea instructions on the Stitched Modern blog [here].

The only thing about this one is I’m not a fan of gluing the fabric to the embroidery hoop, which is what they recommend in their post with the patterns. If you cut away all the fabric and glue it to the hoop like they do in their example, you can’t adjust it later or re-mount it in a different hoop if something unexpected happens.

I prefer lacing the fabric onto the hoop and covering the back in some way, but leaving enough excess fabric tucked away that you can adjust or re-frame the project later if you need / want to.

This video from Peacock & Fig shows how to attach the stitching to the embroidery hoop without gluing it, as well as how to add some felt backing. There are also written instructions to accompany this on their blog [here].

Enjoy and happy stitching! 🙂
